This boat seemingly untethered from time and space

evokes in me the memory of another boat

I sailed upon long ago

bound for Vietnam

How transfixed I was on midnight watch

by our phosphorescent wake

splitting the mirrored sea:

Our boat only a speck

in the ocean of eternity
