Too focused on a single thread

“The world is a complexly interwoven fabric in which everything is linked with everything else and everything is constantly developing ... This is a fundamental truth about the universe, but we rarely think about it. Most of the time we are busy with life on a smaller scale; doing our jobs, cleaning the house, quarreling with a partner, watching television… We get so focused upon a single thread within the fabric of the whole universe that we lose any curiosity about the bigger picture. We become like a flea in the rug whose life is lived on a single thread.
